Allstate is the second largest personal insurance company in the United States and is the largest publicly traded health personal insurer. It was founded in 1931 as a brand of automobile tires sold through Sears, Roebuck and Company. Later that same year, the brand name was extended by the company's decision to offer auto insurance to customers by direct mail. In 1993, Allstate split from Sears.
