Burlington Coat Factory is a department store chain that sells clothing, shoes, housewares, furniture and baby items. With more than 450 stores in 45 states, Burlington Coat Factory has come a long way since its inception in 1924 as a wholesaler of women's outerwear. Started by Monroe and Henrietta Milstein, the first store was literally housed in an old warehouse in Burlington, New Jersey. Having already been a women?s outerwear wholesaler in New York City, Milstein had years of experience in clothing women. Soon, the company expanded its offerings to include services, like baby registries and tailor shops, luxury linens, specialty merchandise and home d'cor.
