Circle K was founded in El Paso, Texas in 1951. In the 1980s, it was the largest company-owned chain of convenience stores in the United States, second only to 7-Eleven in number of stores. After declaring bankruptcy in 1990, Circle K dropped to number four in overall number of stores, which was at the time about 3500. Circle K does not exclusively carry one brand of gasoline. Instead, customers can find Circle K locations with BP, ConocoPhillips, Irving, Marathon, Mobil, Shell, Sunoco or Union-76 brand gasoline.
The majority of applicants that interview for a position with Circle K report a neutral interview experience. Potential employees can expect a fairly straightforward interview process consisting of a face-to-face and/or group panel interview, in which a skills test and a personality test may be given. A standard interview question might include, "You witness a coworker stealing a negligible item; what do you do?" Potential employees can apply online or in person, and phone interviews are sometimes conducted prior to the face-to-face interview. Some applicants who are offered positions can expect to submit to a background check.
