Hertz had its start in 1918 by Walter Jacobs in Chicago, Illinois. Banking on the success of Ford and his Model T, Jacobs supposed that there may be people that needed to use an automobile from time to time but did not have the means to purchase one. Thus, he started a rental car company with an idea and twelve Model T cars. Five years later, the business was sold to John D. Hertz, thus giving the company the name that it possesses to this day. Today, there are nearly 150 Hertz locations, making it the largest car rental company in the world.
The majority of applicants that interview for a position with Hertz report a neutral interview experience. Potential employees can expect a fairly straightforward interview process consisting of a face-to-face and/or group panel interview, in which a skills test and a personality test may be given. A standard interview question might include, "How would you handle a disgruntled customer who felt he was overcharged?" Potential employees can apply online or in person, and phone interviews are sometimes conducted prior to the face-to-face interview. Some applicants who are offered positions can expect to submit to a background check.
