About Kroger

Number of Employees: 5000+

Headquarters: Cincinnati, OH

The Kroger Co. is the largest chain of grocery stores in the United States, and the second largest general retailer overall. The Kroger brand owns several other grocery and convenience stores, including Fry's, Fred Meyer and Food 4 Less. Most Kroger-branded locations are located in the South and the Midwest. The first Kroger store was opened in 1883 in Cincinnati, OH, and today the company operates over 3600 stores. Kroger can likely attribute some of its success to the innovative ideas implemented in the stores over the years. For example, Kroger was the first grocery store to monitor the quality of the products it sold, and was also the first grocery store in the US to use an electronic scanner in the 1970s.

What to Expect When Interviewing

The overwhelming majority of applicants that interview for a position at Kroger report a positive interview experience. Potential employees can expect a fairly straightforward interview process consisting of a face-to-face interview with a store manager, in which standard interview questions are posed. An example might include a question such as, "Why do you want to work for Kroger?" Potential employees can apply online or in person. Those applying for managerial positions may find a more rigorous interview process that may include a panel interview, presentation or a skills test. Applicants who are offered positions may need to complete a drug test and submit to a background check.
