PepsiCo had a revenue of $43 billion in 2009, making it the second largest food and beverage business in the US. The soft drink, Pepsi, was first created in the 1890s by a pharmacist named Caleb Bradham in New Bern, North Carolina. He named his drink Pepsi-Cola in 1898. In 1903 he registered his recipe for a patent, and the Pepsi-Cola Company was incorporated in Delaware in 1919. After the company went bankrupt in 1931, it was purchased by Charles Guth, who was the president of Loft, Inc., a candy manufacturer. Guth used Loft to promote Pepsi, and in 1941 the company was rebranded PepsiCo. In the 1960s, Guth expanded the product line to include Diet Pepsi and Mountain Dew.
