Procter & Gamble is an American Fortune 500 company that manufactures and sells a vast range of consumer goods. Procter & Gamble started in 1837 when two brothers-in-law, William Procter and James Gamble, became business partners. Procter was a candlemaker and Gamble was a soapmaker. By 1859, the company had one million dollars in sales, and during the Civil War, the company supplied the Union Army with candles and soap. In 2005, P&G purchased Gillette, which added brands such as Duracell, Oral-B and Braun to the family, thus creating the biggest consumer goods company in the US.
