Tom Thumb Food & Pharmacy operates under the names Tom Thumb, Simon David and Randall's Food Markets. Owned by Safeway, Tom Thumb has 112 stores throughout Texas and is the third grocery store chain in the Dallas/Forth Worth area, coming in behind Wal-Mart and Kroger. Overall, Tom Thumb is considered to be a high-end supermarket chain, especially when compared to competitors like Albertsons and Kroger. Founded in 1948, the chain actually partnered with Wal-Mart in the late 70s to create a chain of stores called Hypermarket USA, the design of which influenced today's Wal-Mart Supercenters.
