Xerox had its start in Rochester, New York in 1906 as the Haloid Company, originally manufacturing photograph paper and associated equipment. It later got into the copy business and changed its name to Xerox, taken from the word xerography, a word that means "dry writing." In 1959 the company introduced the Xerox 914, which was the world's first plain paper photocopier. By 1965, the company's revenue had reached $500 million. Today, Xerox produces a range of products including prints, photocopiers, digital printing presses, consulting services and associated supplies.
